On 30 July 2022, the exhibition the photo-laboratory project “Interpretations: Tyumen” opened at the Kontora Parakhodstva (Steamer Line Office) multi-centre in Tyumen. It was prepared by members of staff of the State Hermitage’s Youth Centre. The project has been implemented as part of an agreement between the Hermitage and the Gazprom Neft public joint-stock company.

The “Interpretations: Tyumen” photo-laboratory presents the oldest Siberian city through the eyes of its citizens. Eight photographers, artists and researchers tell about Tyumen through personal stories and the emotional perception of details, enabling them to convey a sense of the urban daily round. The authors interpret the city and its life in a fresh, creative manner. The participants were selected through an “open call” process, with eight applications out of a total of 60 being chosen. Over a period of two months, staff of the Hermitage Youth Centre organized working events and prepared reporting projects with the participants online and in face-to-face meetings.

Three halls at the Kontora Parakhodstva centre contain photographs, video art and installations. The exhibition programme includes an educational project that consists of art-mediations, lectures and personalized guided tours of Tyumen.
