Dear Friends,

It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the untimely death of Svetlana Philippova, founder and irreplaceable Head of the International Hermitage Friends' Club. Svetlana passed away on April 1st, 2021 at the age of 62.

Svetlana Philippova was born in Leningrad on May 26, 1958. In 1982 she graduated from the Leningrad State Pedagogical Institute, and in 1986 joined the staff of the State Hermitage Museum, having worked her way up from a junior researcher to the Head of the Hermitage Friends' Club.

The International Hermitage Friends' Club was established back in 1996 and became the first society of museum friends in Russia. Svetlana Philippova  participated in organization and numerous activities of this special museum program from the very first days of its existence. Moreover, she was the true heart of the Friends' Club. More than one thousand citizens of Russia and other countries worldwide have become Hermitage Friends over the 25 years of successful work. Many of them have retained their membership from the moment of its opening to the present day.
