Best wishes for International Museum Day from the Hermitage

Published 18 May 2020

The State Hermitage extends its best wishes for International Museum Day. We have a rich programme of events for the occasion.

To mark International Museum Day, the Hermitage has prepared a present for its virtual visitors in the form of a new virtual guided tour around the top floor of the western side of the Winter Palace, which contains the displays of the museum’s Department of the East. It includes halls devoted to the art of the Byzantine Empire, the countries of the Islamic Middle East, India, China, Mongolia, Tibet and Japan. The new virtual tour also includes displays located on Floor 2 of the north-eastern corner block of the Winter Palace – the halls of the Culture and Daily Life of Early Rus’ and the Muscovite Tsardom in the 9th–17th centuries. The visual part of the tour consists of 88 spherical panoramas supplemented by detailed written commentaries. 465 exhibits are also marked with a special symbol that can be clicked on to open up a larger image and obtain additional information.
